P009 The effects of low-dose morphine on sleep and breathlessness in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Introduction Low-dose morphine is prescribed for refractory breathlessness in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Preliminary investigations suggest improved perceived sleep quality, although concerns exist regarding opioid-induced sedation. This study assessed the effects of on subjective quality and alertness, potential links between breathlessness. Methods Analysis questionnaire data at baseline after one week low-dose slow-release versus placebo according to a double-blind randomised controlled design was performed. Participants were placebo, 8mg or 16mg/day oral (before further dose escalation). Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Karolinska Sleep Score (KSS), Leeds Evaluation Questionnaire (LSEQ) severity scores assessed. Dose measures via linear regression (including measures). Drug relationship mixed models with random three-way interaction measures, dose, visit. Results 156 patients as follows: 8mg, n=55; 16mg, n=51; n=50. Overall, there neutral effect ESS, KSS, LSEQ (all p>0.05). Morphine did not modify Discussion Despite safety concerns, negatively impact daytime alertness measures. There no clear morphine’s next-day perception. Objective assessing are required explore people COPD.

Determination of The Relationship Between Severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients are at increased risk of sleep-disorders. The concomitant occurrence of COPD and obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is named overlap syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the severity of OSAHS in overlap syndrome patients.Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on adult patients with forced...
متن کاملLack of effect of inhaled morphine on exercise-induced breathlessness in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
BACKGROUND Inhaled nebulised morphine may reduce breathlessness in patients with lung disease, although the results of controlled trials are conflicting. A direct action of morphine on the lung has been postulated. This study aimed to investigate whether nebulised morphine reduced exercise-induced breathlessness in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to determine if t...
متن کاملEffects of Pentoxifylline on Oxygenation and Exercise Tolerance in Patients with Severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Background: It was hypothesized that the use of Pentoxifylline would increase arterial O2 saturation and increase exercise tolerance in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Methods: We tested this hypothesis in 23 patients with COPD and pulmonary hypertension. Patients were randomized to receive Pentoxifylline or placebo, each for a 12-week period, in a prospectiv...
متن کاملThe effects of Pilates and diaphragm exercises on some pulmonary factors in chronic obstructive pulmonary Patients
Introduction and purpose: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most important pulmonary diseases. The most important way to minimize the progress of the disease is to rehabilitate the lung. Rehabilitation of the lung improves respiratory pattern. To this end, the effects of two types of Pilates and Diaphragm exercises on some of the pulmonary factors in these patients were...
